The History of the Iconic Ford Bronco

Each vehicle has a history, but few have the heritage that the legendary Ford Bronco does. Humble Beginnings

The Ford Bronco model was first released in 1966. Drivers could choose between three body styles: a two-door wagon, a half-cab pickup, and an open-body roadster.

The first iteration of the powertrain consisted of a 105-horsepower inline-six engine, with a more powerful 200-horsepower V8 engine following up shortly after. While somewhat unappreciated at the time, the first generation provided a strong jumping-off point for future model iterations.

Body & Performance Changes

Over successive generations, the Ford Bronco model underwent several significant overhauls. These included changes to the body and chassis sizes, performance output, and interior toolkits. During this time, the Ford Bronco was adapting to changes in the average American’s day-to-day life, morphing into a vehicle every driver could find practical.

Latest Generation

After five generations of adapting and a quarter-century hiatus, we finally arrived at the sixth generation of the Ford Bronco model. Released in 2021, the current generation of Ford Broncos is sporting an entirely new look, two different EcoBoost® powertrains, and an interior fit for royalty. Despite its long vacation, the new Ford Bronco picked right up where it left off, proving a major hit with the public.
